In France in 1643 Louis XIII dies. His successor, Louis XIV was only 5 years. The regency of the country went to his mother, Anne of Austria, who ruled the country, together with Cardinal Mazarin. Cardinal Mazarin, the prime minister was chosen by Richelieu (his predecessor). The French people, but feels Richelieu, did not accept to be ruled by an Italian, originally from Abruzzo low-aristocratic and described as stingy. She thought that he wanted to get rich at their expense. However, he ruled until the age of 16, Louis XIV asked the power due to him.
Louis XIV, sixteen, took over the reins of the country with clear ideas about European policy. Louis XIV, later known as the Sun King (in that period was firmed the theory that the Sun is at the center of the universe), he prepared to exercise hegemony in Europe. His reign was the longest documented in Europe: 72 years and 100 days. He died in 1715.
